On the Offense
(Times Herald 9/14/07)
In regards to Dr. Damelio's letter of Sept. 11 ("Letter missed the facts"), my brother, Bill Innes, is an upstanding, dedicated teacher who has a passion for his job. Back when former school superintendent Gladys Phillips-Evans was claiming nothing was wrong, it was Bill who kept questioning the "irregularities" in the school district. As we all know, Dr. Damelio was appointed to resolve these problems.
Although I expected the school district might issue a press release when I read about the problem with the vice-principal, I expected that the district would apologize for allowing an un-qualified person to hold the position. I expected that the district would talk about the lack of ethics of any person who would knowingly apply for a position for which he was not qualified and knew he would not be qualified. I expected the district to explain to us what safeguards it had set up to prevent this from happening in the future. I expected the district to tell us that this alleged scam had been reported to the police or at least to the Department of Education, so that this individual could not try such a scheme anywhere else.
I guess I was naive. Apparently Dr. Damelio feels the best defense is a good offense.
