What do you think about what has transpired between the district and VEA as Day 3 of negotiations has now wrapped up?
You can read the article about the community forum hosted by Superintendent Dr. Mary Bull from VCUSD. Did you attend? How do you feel the district handled questions presented by the community? On April 30th your Bargaining team met with the District to discuss the calendar and buy back days for the 2008 to 2009 school year. While the Bargaining team gave proposals to the District over the calendar and attempted in good faith to reach an agreement, we later learned that the District was merely exchanging “concepts” and not proposals. It is the opinion of the Bargaining Team that the District engaged in regressive bargaining when their last “concept” was significantly less than their previous “concept.” As of April 30th, we still do not have an agreement on the 2008 to 2009 calendar. Our next bargaining session is scheduled for May 7th.

While the Times Herald may erroneously claim that there were “dozens of teachers in attendance,” according our count, there was actually 400 teachers showing their support at the district office on Wednesday, March 5.
For your viewing pleasure, the following are pictures that we have received showing our teachers at the district office.
Thanks to Ron West for sending these pictures.
How do you feel about the District’s proposal? Do you think they are being reasonable in proposing teachers to work an extra hour without increasing pay? How about their proposed increase of class sizes?
What are other things regarding their proposal that you would like to discuss? Post your comments!
There has been some discussion about assessments under the “Topics” post below. This is being moved to its own post so that the conversation can continue here.
What are some of the concerns teachers have about the use of district assessments? How are district assessments being used your school site? Please do not limit the discussion to those two questions, but feel free to add whatever you think is pertinent to the conversation regarding District Assessments.
