Outrageous!
Last Wednesday, the school board agreed to send out pink slip to 190 of our unit members. Imagine our surprise when we received in our district e-mail this morning a posting for a brand new administrative position! The district continues to advertise for Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum, Instruction and Student Support at the starting salary of $148,825 a year and now they are advertising for Assistant Director of Elementary Education with a salary range of $86,453 to $91,853.
How many teaching positions would these two positions pay for? It is amazing to that the district seems to have plenty of money to pay for more administrative positions but no money to keep teachers in the classroom.

District Remodeling
Just a few months ago, the District received new office furniture at the tune of almost $20,000. Then, two weeks ago while your Bargaining Team was hard at work bargaining with the District, they were quite shocked to see that the interior walls of the District Office was being painted a lovely shade of green. It seems that the District has plenty of green for their needs, but no green for our pockets!
When was the last time your school site received a nice new coat of paint and not just one to cover up the spots here and there. Those don’t count! Send us your pictures to post on this blog. We bet that your school sites don’t look as spiffy as the District Office!
Sac Bee offers an online tool to compare teacher salaries
In the article, “See how well your school district pays its teachers,” readers can compare teacher salaries with those in their county. Using the drop down menu, readers can see how salaries have either increased or decreased when adjusted for inflation. Vallejo saw a decrease of 8.1% when adjusted for inflation. Teachers in Vallejo are at the bottom for salary increasing over time. We also rank as fifth in all school districts across the state with the fastest shrinking teacher salaries.
