District Remodeling
Just a few months ago, the District received new office furniture at the tune of almost $20,000. Then, two weeks ago while your Bargaining Team was hard at work bargaining with the District, they were quite shocked to see that the interior walls of the District Office was being painted a lovely shade of green. It seems that the District has plenty of green for their needs, but no green for our pockets!
When was the last time your school site received a nice new coat of paint and not just one to cover up the spots here and there. Those don’t count! Send us your pictures to post on this blog. We bet that your school sites don’t look as spiffy as the District Office!

The district’s reponse, when asked at the last Board meeting, was that the walls in public areas at the district office were getting “scuffed” and they were painting “patched” areas. If this is the case, why were offices painted?
Our schools and classrooms are all public areas and they certainly get a lot more wear then the district office. I also know that many schools have “patchy” paint areas that should be completely painted.
Perhaps people should begin asking WHEN their school is going to receive the same treatment as the district office!

I have never …. (in 7 years) received a new piece of furniture for my room. I have had to scrounge for matching chairs, or for desks that are undamaged. (still haven’t achieved this elusive feat), I am sure that some of my random chairs are decades old. Despite the remodeling that took place around the time I came to work at vcusd, our staff room remains the worst facility I have seen at any site, it has never been touched. It is truly a sign of disrespect to purchase new furniture and repaint a new office while there are needs that have been deferred for so long. It reminds me of the auto executives taking a private jet to their meeting in Washington to ask for billions of dollars. We are being asked to cut to the bone, while they improve their working environment to a level beyond any that I have ever had the pleasure of enjoying.

At Vallejo City Hall, the only time everybody got new furniture and a interior office remodeling was in 2001! that only occur once since the building opened in 1970! The mayor, city manager, directors, superintendents, never ever had their offices repainted!
