“What Teachers Make”

Taylor Mali is a teacher and slam poet. You may have seen a version of this poem floating around the Internet not know that he was the original author of it. We need to keep in mind the difference we make every day in our classrooms. Vallejo has many challenges, however, for those of us who choose to teach in Vallejo, we know that we do make a difference. We know that we are counselors, nurses, moms or dads, and often provide the only stability that some of our students have ever known. YOU make a difference and that difference has value.

United we stand. Divided we fall.

    Dear Fellow Teachers,
It is regrettable that VCUSD is repeating events of past years. My heart aches for those who received pink slips, and I hope that May 15 will bring good news for those teachers.

Rumors fly that the District is still hiring more high-paid administrators. I don’t know what’s true. Possibly they do this so that they can then turn around and lay those people off in order to appear to be conducting reductions in the big office. No one even knows what those people do in the big office. Do we see benefits of their expertise in the classroom? I think the District Board members need to wake up and take an active part in the direction of this district instead of being told what to do by those who have led us astray time and time again.

Chin up and support your colleagues. We’re in this boat together.

Not just Vallejo Schools, really, its a Vallejo problem….

I’ve seen it in Vallejo, especially in City Hall BUT more often in Vallejo schools: parents vs teachers vs admins vs the state of ca vs voters vs others vs students and so on = hence Vallejo is no longer united = Vallejo is just EPIC Fail !

If I were to be on the Vallejo School Board, I will end this Vallejo culture of a blame game between a divided yet diverse Vallejo and unite as one under a common, achievable goal, a better education system with improve quality of life! How? I will work with one another to resolve the issues in mutual respect and restore a sense of trust within all..
